This just doesn't make any sense to me, people hating original characters?
Now my idea of an original character is a character created by an individual for use in a cannon made entirely by that same creator, for example, John Egbert from Homestuck would be an original character, as he was made specifically for that story, which was made completely by the creator of the series, original work can take inspiration but for the most part it goes it's own way rather than piggyback of of existing cannon from an an existing mainstream series. characters made for that are what I consider fan characters.
The philosophy of hating original characters in my opinion, quashes individual creativity, leaving people to do nothing but make fan characters (which is what almost everyone on deviantart ever does anymore), but more importantly, why are there people like that?
